I'm not sure what inefficiencies Marcus is referring to, but I will say that the listserv continues to attract RM professionals from around the world. I am on several different types of fora around the internet for RIM information. I've noticed that the LinkedIn groups use email to notify members of new topics and comments. You can receive a digest version or notifications as comments are made. Now if the Conference board had this capability you would probably see greater activity.
"not have to weed through streaming email or run keyword filters on their inbox." I am a heavy user of gmail and have set up numerous filters to organize the email I get. Using filters or rules to sort one's email lets you focus on the items in your in-box that don't meet the rules ie manage by exception. The rules/filters let you prioritize what you look at.
anyway those are my thoughts
Hi Peter,
I agree the LinkedIn user experience is the best discussion board model. Those who are interested in push services, such as update notifications and auto-email of post content can activate those as they see fit. Others who simply wish to view discussions at their own pace and extent can do so.
Hopefully, the iConference site admins are capturing some useful tidbits!
