I'd like to see if we can make use of iConference to post information relating to Standards Development. Items where there may be a "call for comment" that can be referred to over a period of time would be great to see posted her. Perhaps we might also make use of the site to post pending regulations that have a RIM Impact, with information for members on how to comment on those pending regulations.... Just a couple thoughts that may provide additional, helpful content!

excellent idea. I don't think even AIIM provides that sort of service

another thing to consider would be having a place for links to key stories that appear in the news

Great ideas. Thanks for the input. We will definitely try to implement them.
Ok, a second thought/idea..... and I'm not sure whether this is at all practical...but could the new chat capability be linked to webinars in any way, or could we move any "subsequent" Q&A to chat in those cases where there is (1) a topic that generates a substantial number of questions, and (2) where we have a willing webinar leader to continue the discussion?
Ok... third idea... and I hope others may hop in. Would it make sense for us to use iConference as our "repository" for webinar content rather than incorporating it into the busy ARMA web site? Perhaps an area where members can access recorded webinars for a period of time? Most of my thoughts relate to how we can make use of the site as a content delivery tool.

I like the idea of having a separate "library" on iConference for webinars.  As long as we have good linking capabilities to the sites, indexing and metatags so that we can find and toggle between sites easily this could work well.  I am also dying to see a RIM based template library pop-up, so iConference could be a possible collaborative area as well.

I would add to Doug's excellent suggestions the following:
1. Provide better awareness of iConference through a direct email to all members, chapter leaders and region leaders.
2. Leverage the Region Managers and Coordinators to "get the word out" to as many people as possible via their Regional networks.
3. Provide a link to the iConference site at the end of each article in the Online InfoPro and have a discussion set up and ready to start for each article.
4. Use the ARMA Twitter network (much like I did this past week) to get the message out, including the link to iConference and then request that us Twitting ARMA members re-tweet the message.
5. Expand the number and types of Groups to really create a true online place where ANYONE (not just ARMA members) can start a discussion on RIM or RIM-related topics. In fact, I'd really like to see a new group set up for the ARMA International Educational Foundation (Please?).

My view is that iConference has a great potential as THE place where people can come and 'talk' records and information management easily and without boundaries with their peers, mentors, luminaries, or just anyone with an interest in managing information more successfully. Simply put, iConference is the genesis of what ARMA could do to ultimately (and finally) create a true 'Community' for the profession, professionals and those who are interested in seeking answers to one of the most vexing challenges we face today - how to live and thrive in an information-intensive global society.

"Use the ARMA Twitter network"

ah yes communications one of my favorite things. need to broaden the communication tools available at hand. for major items consider posting a notice to the recmgmt-l listserv. with over 2000+ subscribers a notice there raises awareness of iConference. you want to drive people to the website. do like AIIM and flood the various associated LinkedIn groups with announcements as a member of several iconference groups send notices to members'  email accounts that new discussions have been posted. LinkedIn does this. Otherwise I forget to come here.

yes use twitter but recognize there is that the noise to signal ratio on twitter is huge, not everyone watches twitter on a regular basis, some like myself prefer email notifications

Expand the number and types of Groups to really create a true online place where ANYONE (not just ARMA members) can start a discussion on RIM or RIM-related topics.

I agree with larry make it like LinkedIn, allow ARMA members to create their own groups. allow non-members to register but limit them to joining only a limited number of groups. this will let them see that there is value to membership.

I would like to see a specific iConference Group for "Employment" - including job postings, candidates sharing opportunities and leads, and RIM leaders sharing official and unofficial news relative to positions in organizations.

Have you tried the ARMA ListServe?  I know that there are a lot of news messages to filter through at times, but lots of advice between records managers.  Most of the discussions that you've requested already occur on the ListServe.

ARMA also has their advertised job postings listed if you go to arma.org.

Hope this provides some insight.  All the best -ilona

Hi Ilona,

Thanks a lot for the helpful tidbits. I'd like to see iConference replace the inefficiencies of e-mail listservs and have all such content moved here. Discussion boards are far superior for professional networking content, rather than the push medium of e-mail. Users need only access the content and discussion of interest to them, and not have to weed through streaming email or run keyword filters on their inbox.

I'll have Peter answer this one on the future of the ListServe.

I think that the ListServe even though it may contain jumbled  bits of information still acts as a way for all of us to quickly glance at what we are doing even if it's unrelated and keep in touch with the pulse of the RIM community.  You are right we would ignore most of the Postings on a discussion board, but I really think that ARMA's ListServe means more than just accessing the information that you need, it's about truly being interested in what our colleagues are doing.  I'm sure I'm not the only only one who looks forward to the random musings of the regular responders and the well wishes to new CRMs and RIM students.

There are a lot of relationships that have been built through this ListServe network, so it might be around for awhile.
