Would it be a problem to set up a group for individual chapters? A private group for chapter board members, in which we could set up discussions and, possibly, conduct meetings would help tremendously.
Hi David,
Thanks for your input. In Chapter Connection last time, the chapter leaders were encouraged to use the "leadership" tab to discuss chapter stuff among all the other chapter leaders. The iConference site is not really set up for private groups. That said, I would be more than happy to help you set up a Ning site for the chapter that could also include a private discussion board for leadership. However, this would be under your direction and control and ARMA International would not be responsible for designing and maintaining it.

Thanks,

Is it similar to Google Groups? I was hoping to find something more robust than some of the free things out there that would allow us to share docs and do multiple discussions of chapter business. We might have to go to some sort of inexpensive paid service to get something that doesn't flake out on us or doesn't convert our docs into some other format.
We use SharePoint for document management, but then again we are on a single network here at HQ. We haven't really used Ning for document sharing and I am not aware of any free cloud-based services that would be any better than Google Docs. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Hi David,
Thanks for your suggestion. I will look into it and get back to you.

Thanks,

Ian
Could I upload a PDF of a brochure for our conference and send a link to people on our email list? Google Docs seems to get blocked for some reason and so many companies have restrictive email that are very funny about attachments (and possibly links). I've tried the free Adobe site (maker of Acrobat and other software), but it many people have trouble getting that to work.

Also, I can't seem to find a way to search for iConference members in Louisiana. I've tried "la" and "louisiana" and "new orleans" but either nothing comes up or too much. And there is at least one other person (Laurie Blandino) who is in Louisiana on iConf. It might be nice to pull up people by region as well, especially region leadership. Just ideas. Most useful would be a way to pull up all people within a certain chapter...hey- now THAT would be nice, so I can talk to everyone in my membership!
Hi David,

A PDF has to be loaded on a server to be viewed by others. I don't think you can do this in iConference.

We are also looking into adding Chapter groups on the site. I sent a proposal on this up the flagpole a couple of days ago.

Thanks,

Ian
